When one thinks of the Côte d'Azur, one often imagines the pebble beaches of Nice, La Croisette in Cannes or the yachts of Monaco. However, just a few kilometres from the coast, the Nice hinterland hides treasures of freshness and nature.

Among the headline activities, canyoning comes out on top. But beware of preconceived notions! Canyoning isn't an extreme sport reserved for extreme athletes. On the French Riviera, there are magnificent routes that are perfectly suited for families, children and absolute beginners.

At home AzurCanyoning, our speciality is helping you discover this activity in a way that’s all about fun, safety and zero pressure. Here’s how to take the plunge with confidence.

Family canyoning: the ideal summer activity

Looking for an original outing that will please children, teenagers and parents alike? Canyoning ticks all the boxes. It’s a real natural water park, sculpted by rock and the pure mountain water.

An adventure open to everyone (from 8 years old)

For your children (from 8 years old, provided they can swim), it's an unforgettable adventure where they learn to slide down smooth rock slides, float in emerald water basins, and take their first jumps.

Our philosophy: «Zero Stress, Zero Obligation»

The biggest fear for beginners? Being stuck in front of an overwhelming obstacle.

Our golden rule at AzurCanyoning: No jumping, no sliding, and no abseiling is mandatory. If there's an obstacle you're not comfortable with, your guide always has an alternative solution (a bypass on foot or a gentle descent at the end of a rope). You proceed at your own pace, so the activity remains enjoyable from start to finish.

The ideal spot for beginners: the Gorges du Loup canyon

If you are staying in Nice or on the French Riviera coast, there is a magical place, world-renowned for initiation: The Gorges du Loup canyon.

Located just 45 minutes from Nice and Cannes, in the commune of Gourdon, it's the perfect playground for a first family outing.

Why choose the Gorges du Loup for your baptism?

Ultra-easy access: There's no need to walk for hours to reach the water. A very simple 5 to 10-minute approach walk is all that's needed.
The sun is out: Unlike the deep, dark, high-mountain canyons, the Gorges du Loup are very open. The Côte d'Azur sun penetrates widely, making the water very pleasant.
Bespoke obstacles: The course offers an incredible variety of small slides and jumps (ranging from 2 to 9 metres... only for those who want them!).

How does your first outing with AzurCanyoning go?

We'll take care of everything, so your only concern is to have fun:

The full equipment: We provide all the high-end equipment: full 5mm neoprene wetsuit (to stay nice and warm), neoprene socks, helmet and harness.
The reassuring briefing: Before you jump in, your state-certified guide will explain the basic techniques for walking, sliding, and jumping safely.
2 hours of fun: Here we go for the descent of the Gorges du Loup, supervised by a passionate professional who is used to dealing with children.
The express return: A short 15-minute walk takes you directly back to the car park.
